On the 10th March 2025 we hosted our co-design workshop! At the Health Hive we are focused on helping young people build foundational research skills.
We got the team together, including young people, researchers and our amazing partners to co-design our open-access course. The course aims to equip young people with essential research skills. This foundational resource aims to empower adolescents with the knowledge and tools needed to participate meaningfully in research.
The course will be flexible, offer self-paced learning, and be practical to ensure accessibility and relevance for a diverse audience.
We had a graphical illustrator capturing the day and we can’t wait to share the drawing with you! A sneak peek below…

Kay, one of our peer facilitators, reflected on the day:
“Being back in person with everyone has been great! The development of this MOOC [our massive online open course] is looking increasingly tangible and collaborating with experts has been exciting to say the least.
The workshop has been incredibly promising, and the MOOC is finally taking shape. I can not express how interesting it was to hear discussions from young people and established researchers about making meaningful and long-lasting change.
It is refreshing to see young people involved in conversations that impact them, and their voices respected. The process towards developing the MOOC has been anything but tokenistic, and we had the pleasure of hearing personal reflections from Sara Wardak and Dominik Mautner about their experiences working as young people in research.
We aim to promote self-paced, accessible learning that is practical and applicable to the field, which is reflected in the newly established MOOC structure and design intentions.
Through a series of discussions and brainstorms we have taken another step towards co-developing a digital course that will not only prepare young people to participate in research, but also equip them with transferrable skills and qualities.
Additionally, we hope to provide opportunities for young people completing the MOOC to put their acquired research skills into action.”
