Get Involved

We welcome researchers to share research opportunities where young people are meaningfully involved, including:

As collaborators, co-researchers, or advisors contributing to study design, analysis, or dissemination.

As participants and contributors, where their experiences, ideas, and feedback actively shape the project, not just their demographic or health data.

In co-design or citizen science activities, where youth perspectives influence decisions and outcomes, which are then communicated to young people.

Projects will not be listed if young people are involved only as research subjects (e.g. personal data collection without input, consultation, or feedback opportunities). Please email health.hive@sydney.edu.au to be featured.

Recruitment was particularly challenging as I was seeking a very specific niche cohort of young people for a research project. Health Hive enabled me to reach participants I had been unable to engage through other channels, significantly improving the representativeness and impact of the research.

Project title: Co-designing a personalised data-driven model of care for youth mental health
Led by: Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney
Contact: Sam Huntley (sam.huntley@sydney.edu.au)
Format: Online workshops via Zoom (approximately 2 hours in duration)
About: Young people often say that mental health care can feel “one-size-fits-all”. This project is trying to change that. We are developing a new approach that uses digital technology and your own data about your mood, sleep, and wellbeing to make mental health care more personalised and responsive to your needs. Phase 1 involves co-designing how this would work in practice, including what the data output would look like, what information is needed for both clinicians and young people, and how it would work in the clinical setting to support shared decision-making. Insights from the workshops will help to guide what the model of care looks like and how it will be implemented into practice (to be implemented and evaluated with young people and clinicians in Phase 2).
Who can take part: Young people aged 15-25 years who have experience (current or past) of accessing mental health services.
Support: Gift voucher provided for your time ($47 per hour = $94 for a 2-hour workshop)
Apply by: Workshops will be run throughout April.
